"Really. Small coffee. Medium cup."

The silly punk just stood there staring with his watery blue eyes and scratching his nose. He felt the crowd shift in line behind him along with their goodwill. Andy was tempted to up the testosterone but before he could pull his badge the sing-songy voice was back.

'Aye aye, Captain." The coffee cup salute was a little cheeky and invited the twitter of amusement from somewhere further down the line. Fuck, I'm getting too old for this.

Blue feathers puffed around the teen's head as he swiveled sharply, tossing the unwanted cup away in a beautiful arcing trajectory, tracking its flight across the café, watching it bounce off the community board before it landed safely in the paper-recycling bin below. Apparently some high school was missing their point guard.

By the cheers it seemed like the entire coffee line had been watching, too. Andy huffed in the face of their apparent devotion to the barista and watched him yank a larger cup from the stack. Making a show of pulling out a red sharpie, the barista drew a heavy red line all around the cup, approximating where twelve ounces of coffee would be. He held the cup outstretched, shaking it in Andy's face, to get his attention.

"Dude. Columbian, Ethiopian, French Roast, Olympic Rain Forest Blend, Goat Horn Decaf...they're all black, but you gotta fill ‘er up back there." His cadence had slowed down and Andy realized he'd been taken for a tourist, an idiot, or probably both.

Reaching for the cup, Andy was about to school the barista on the fact that he'd been buying his coffee, black, from the bookstore café for probably longer than he'd been alive, when he noticed the T-shirt the kid was wearing.
